Description
The Metropolis of Tehran has long been faced with different traffic problems. One of Tehran’s traffic knots can be found in Municipal District 8, along the east-west axis of Janbazan Street just after Imam Ali Expressway. This traffic knot led to a heavy traffic congestion in the point where Imam Ali Expressway exits into Janbazan Street. This traffic congestion was also transferred to the North-South axis of Imam Ali Expressway. Previously, vehicles that passed along this axis and headed towards Janbazan Street and Nabovat Square used the U-turn located on the East-West axis of Janbazan Street and obstructed the traffic. Thus, Imam Ali Expressway – Janbazan Street Interchange was constructed to overcome this traffic problem.
The project includes an east-west underpass along Janbazan Street. The first lane passes under Kerman Street and continues west. The second lane acts like a U-turn exit continuing toward Eastern Janbazan Street and Southern Imam Ali Expressway. Two underpass crossings make it possible for the vehicles to access Western Janbazan and Northern Kerman Streets through the East-West Axis of Janbazan Street. The projects total area is about 21,000 m2.
