Description
This project involved the design and construction of the main and semi-main polyethylene pipelines with diameters ranging from 50 to 450 mm and equipped with irrigation laterals and wings as well as the classic fixed sprinkler irrigation system, center-pivot irrigation system, manifold irrigation system, lateral irrigation system, and drip irrigation system. The project was implemented in a 7000-hectare area and was aimed at managing the available water resources, promoting residents’ welfare and well-being, and creating jobs. The operations were performed in the city of Karam Abad (West Azarbaijan Province) which is located 30 km southeast of Maku and 13 km south of Poldasht. Ilanlu, Qur Shaqlu, Shah Pasand, Karam Abad, Qiasi, Margan, Seneq, Tavarreh, and Tappehsi Dalik villages can benefit from the project.
Scope of Work
- Design and construction of a 7000-hectare subsidiary irrigation network
- Detailed study and planning and developing the implementation designs for the management of water resources at Aras border river
- Detailed and accurate pedological studies, 300 hectares
- Design and implementation of the classic sprinkler irrigation system (3,500 hectares), center-pivot irrigation system (1,200 hectares), and drip irrigation system (1,600 hectares)
- Design and construction of polyethylene pipelines with diameters ranging from 50 to 450 mm, 3,100 km
- Design and construction of access roads along pipes and drains, and on the sandy areas between the fields, 380 km
- Earthworks (excavation and backfilling), approx. 1,000,000 m3
- Construction of water structures and hydro-mechanical equipment
- Design and construction of the central control station
Key Statistics
- Construction of 1400 technical buildings (concrete-block, water discharge, and air release chambers)
- Construction and installation of approximately 160,000 polymer raisers and polymer check valves
- Design of 80 central control stations consisting of a building and all the required equipment for implementing the drip irrigation system in the relevant fields
- Developing a power transmission and distribution system required for the center-pivot irrigation machines
- Installing 160,000 concrete water pipes and check valve protectors
- Installing all the required accessories and valves (flanges, converters, pipe tees, elbows, etc.)
